PWO Sets New Sustainability Milestones with Green Electricity Initiatives

On March 28, 2024, Progress-Werk Oberkirch AG (PWO) announced an acceleration in its group-wide decarbonization efforts, underscoring the company's commitment to climate protection. CEO Carlo Lazzarini highlighted that starting from 2024, PWO's operations in Mexico will be powered entirely by green electricity as part of the company's broader strategy to significantly reduce its carbon footprint.

The initiative includes the commissioning of a photovoltaic system at the San Cristobal site in Mexico, designed to generate approximately 820,000 kWh annually. This move, along with the procurement of green electricity certificates recognized by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), aims to fully transition PWO's Mexican sites to green energy sources by 2024.

PWO's ambitious climate targets align with the Paris Climate Agreement, targeting a 46.2% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 from the 2019 baseline. Remarkably, by the end of 2023, the company had already achieved a 51.0% reduction. PWO also aims to cut Scope 3 emissions by 28.0% by 2030.

Strengthening its commitment, PWO plans to switch its operations in China to green electricity by 2026, further enhancing its sustainability efforts. The company's Mexican locations, significant contributors to group revenue, are expected to continue driving growth through their development and production of innovative, climate-friendly lightweight construction solutions.
