QIC Highlights Decarbonisation and Decentralisation Opportunities at Global Summit

Queensland Investment Corporation (QIC) actively participated in the Infrastructure Investor Global Summit, held in Berlin from March 18-21, 2024. Representatives from QIC's offices globally attended the event, emphasizing the importance of infrastructure investments in a transforming environment.

During the summit, Kirsten Whitehead, Partner at QIC Infrastructure, emphasized the critical role of enhancing asset resilience against climate risks and championed Australia's energy transition landscape as pivotal for sustainable progress. She highlighted the significant investment opportunities in Australia’s infrastructure sector, especially in renewable energy and sustainable off-grid power solutions, attributing to Australia's compelling energy transition landscape necessitating decentralised solutions.

Arash Shojaie, Senior Principal at QIC Infrastructure, shared insights on the panel discussing the macro impacts on the energy transition and the broader aspects of decarbonising the economy. He pointed out the evolution in the electricity ecosystem driven by advances in renewable energy and storage technologies, outlining a variety of investment opportunities spanning renewable generation, transmission, and electric transport among others. The discussion also covered the critical challenge of combining and sequencing technologies to enable the energy transition effectively.

Furthermore, the summit addressed the challenges of funding the energy transition, identifying it as a key theme driving new deal flow for QIC's infrastructure lending program. QIC’s thematic investment strategy focusing on decarbonisation, decentralisation, and other significant themes was also discussed in the context of seeking value in the infrastructure debt market amidst a high level of transaction activity.
