Recticel Group Advances Sustainability with New Recycled Polyol Facility
The Recticel Group has inaugurated its industrial-scale recycled polyol plant in Wevelgem, Belgium. This development is a pivotal part of Recticel’s sustainability strategy, focusing on circularity in insulation board production. The facility will recycle post-industrial PIR waste into high-quality recycled polyol, a first for any PIR producer at this scale.
This closed-loop recycling process reduces waste, lessens dependence on virgin materials, and cuts greenhouse gas emissions. Initially, the plant will recycle up to 4,000 tonnes of PIR waste annually, producing about 6,000 tonnes of recycled polyol, which offers 40% lower carbon emissions compared to virgin polyol.
Beyond its current capabilities, the plant sets the stage for future circular economy projects, aiming to increase recycled content, explore take-back programs, and further reduce waste across the supply chain. This initiative underscores Recticel’s commitment to engineering insulation materials for multiple life cycles, steering away from traditional linear production models.
