RV Camping Overtakes Rental Properties for Labor Day Weekend

WASHINGTON, DC / ACCESSWIRE / August 26, 2024 — As fall approaches, 27 million Americans plan to embark on RV trips, with 7.3 million hitting the road over Labor Day weekend. The journey itself has become the primary destination, with 65% of RV travelers opting for road trips.

RV camping has now outstripped rental properties as the preferred Labor Day accommodation, according to a Fall Travel Intentions survey by Cairn Consulting for the RV Industry Association. "The freedom of RV travel continues to resonate with travelers of all ages," noted RV Industry Association President & CEO Craig Kirby.

Millennials and Gen Z are leading this trend. One-third of Millennial leisure travelers plan an RV trip within the next year, with similar numbers considering purchase. Fall RVing motivations include escaping daily routines, enjoying peak destinations, seeking less crowded experiences, and favorable weather.

Tailgating remains a popular fall activity, with 3.5 million participants. RVing dominates festival tailgating, followed closely by college and professional football, and concerts. Younger generations show more interest, though older generations maintain enthusiasm for high-level events.
