Very low carbon “siding” production thanks to electrification and renewable energy

By Roger HERRMANN - Saint-Gobain has announced the start of production of very low-carbon siding at its American production sites in McPherson (Kansas), Social Circle (Georgia) and Williamsport (Maryland). This 96% reduction in scope 1 and 2 emissions was made possible thanks to the total electrification of production processes and the use of 100% electricity from renewable sources.

Saint-Gobain plans to achieve net zero carbon emissions (scope 1 and 2) production at all of its siding sites in the United States in the coming years. This achievement is part of the three renewable electricity purchase agreements (“Power Purchase Agreement”) already signed, which will cover more than 70% of the electricity consumption of all sites by 2025. production of Saint-Gobain in North America.

This initiative is a new manifestation of Saint-Gobain's commitment to reducing its CO2 emissions and achieving the objective of net zero emissions (scopes 1, 2 and 3) by 2050. It also strengthens the positioning of the group as a global leader in sustainable construction and its leading role in helping to build a carbon neutral economy.
