SES and SpeQtral Partner for Quantum-Secure Communications
SES and SpeQtral have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop Optical Ground Stations (OGS) for satellite-based Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) between Asia and Europe. This initiative aims to enhance global cybersecurity, allowing both firms to link their QKD satellite missions. The proposed integration with Singapore's network will support global QKD connectivity upon the readiness of satellites.
The first OGS is planned for Singapore, tapping into its strong quantum-safe initiatives. This partnership is set to reduce costs, address service gaps, and facilitate global deployment. SES and SpeQtral’s efforts underscore a commitment to building a worldwide network that supports advanced secure communications.
Both companies bring substantial expertise; SES leads the European EAGLE-1 project co-funded by ESA and SpeQtral is developing QKD satellites with support from OSTIn. The collaboration strengthens SpeQtral's role in global quantum security innovation while allowing SES to extend its market reach.
