SMX and A*STAR to Develop National Plastic Circularity Platform in Singapore

Security Matters (SMX) and Singapore's Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) are joining forces to create a national plastic circularity platform. This initiative will use SMX's molecular marking technology alongside A*STAR's advanced detection capabilities to permanently mark and track plastic from manufacturing to recycling. The goal is to improve recycling efficiency and transparency, supporting Singapore's move towards a circular economy.

The first phase will launch a nationwide digital passport for plastics, tracking over 5,000 tonnes of waste in real time. This initiative aims to shift Singapore’s recycling rates and significantly reduce landfill volumes by 2030. A Plastic Cycle Token will also be introduced, allowing recyclers to monetize recycled output.

The collaboration promises to transform waste management practices, driving economic resilience through sustainable practices. High-value recycled materials could dramatically reduce incineration costs and boost market value.
