Stepstone Analysis: Flexible Labor Market Spurs Career Switch Trend
The Stepstone Group has observed a significant increase in job ads for career changers due to a growing labor market flexibility. From 2019 to 2023, such job ads more than quadrupled on Stepstone.de. The trend continues in 2024, showing a 136% increase by mid-year compared to 2019.
Dr. Tobias Zimmermann, a labor market expert at Stepstone, highlights the increasing frequency of career changes as a response to evolving job profiles and demographic shifts. A recent Stepstone survey indicates that nearly 60% of HR managers find it challenging to locate suitable candidates.
Three-quarters of employees consider new job challenges monthly, and 29% seek opportunities in new industries. Internal mobility also presents opportunities, with 16% of companies promoting this practice and 20% emphasizing further training and qualifications.
