Sun Peak Metals Begins Drilling at Shire Project in Ethiopia

Sun Peak Metals Corp. announces the start of drilling operations at the Shire Project, located in Ethiopia. With plans to drill between 6,000 to 7,000 meters initially in 2024, the focus is on exploring new, untested copper-gold VMS (Volcanogenic Massive Sulphide) targets. The current drilling target is the Hamlo VMS prospect within the Terer Exploration License.

The president and CEO of Sun Peak, Greg Davis, expressed optimism about uncovering new copper-gold VMS discoveries on the project this year, reigniting efforts after a three-year hiatus. The Hamlo prospect, characterized by significant gold and copper soil anomalies and verified through a 2019 airborne VTEM survey and subsequent ground gravity work, is believed to have potential similarities with other VMS deposits in the Arabian-Nubian Shield.

The initial drilling phase at Hamlo aims to penetrate up to 250 meters deep to test three zones: the oxide cap (gossan), the copper-enriched supergene zone, and the primary sulfide zone. Following Hamlo, other high-priority targets within the Shire Project, including Terer, Anguda North, Meda, and Inda, will undergo testing.

Sun Peak, which had to suspend its program due to regional conflict in November 2020, is now fully funded for 2024's planned drilling activities. Despite past disruptions, the company managed to reassess and log previous drill cores, with samples currently under assay. Sun Peak continues to uphold strong community engagement and environmental standards in its operations, emphasizing the importance of stakeholder consent and minimal ecological disturbance.
