SYNLAB Reports Robust Financial Performance in Q1 2024

SYNLAB AG, a leading European provider of medical diagnostic services, announced a strong financial performance for the first quarter of 2024. Despite a decrease in overall revenue from €702 million in Q1 2023 to €682 million in Q1 2024, the company achieved significant profitability improvements. The adjusted EBITDA increased by 4% to €123 million, with a corresponding margin of 18.0%, aligning with the upper end of their full-year guidance of 17-18%.

Underlying organic growth was reported at 3.9%, adjusted to 5.2% when considering variations in working days. This growth was primarily driven by non-COVID-19 testing services, highlighting the company's successful adaptation to post-pandemic market conditions. SYNLAB's regional performance varied, with strong growth in Germany and the North & East segment, while France and the Southern segment faced minor declines.

The company further strengthened its financial position through rigorous portfolio management and the implementation of SALIX cost-saving measures, contributing €8 million to the bottom line. Additionally, SYNLAB reported a robust unlevered free cash flow of €45 million, a significant improvement from the negative cash flow in Q1 2023.

Looking ahead, SYNLAB maintains its revenue outlook at approximately €2.7 billion for 2024, with an expected organic growth rate around 4% and continued improvement in adjusted EBITDA margin. The company's strategic focus remains on selective M&A activities and enhancing operational efficiency across its segments.
