Telebras and SES Boost Digital Inclusion in Northern Brazil with 1,500 Internet Points
Telebras and SES have successfully implemented over 1,500 Internet access points in Brazil's Northern Region through the SES-17 satellite. This initiative is part of the GESAC program, aimed at enhancing digital inclusion across Brazil's remote and rural areas. The program focuses on public institutions, schools, libraries, health units, and indigenous villages, offering high-speed broadband connectivity.
The SES-17 geostationary satellite, with a new gateway in Hortolandia, Brazil, facilitates this initiative. This collaboration seeks to bridge the digital divide in underserved communities by providing essential internet access and fostering social inclusion. As stated by Frederico Siqueira, President of Telebras, this digital access is crucial for promoting citizenship.
SES's Vice President, Omar Trujillo, highlighted the significant progress made, though challenges remain in reaching low-density regions. The partnership exemplifies how satellite technology can play a vital role in improving connectivity and reducing social disparities.
