'THE FIRING SQUAD' - The True Story Behind the Upcoming Movie
The much-anticipated movie ‘THE FIRING SQUAD,’ set to release nationwide on August 1, 2024, is generating considerable buzz due to its depiction of real-life events.
In 2015, Indonesia executed eight prisoners for drug-smuggling. These prisoners found faith in Jesus while in prison, singing ‘Amazing Grace’ and ‘Bless the Lord O My Soul’ before their execution. Karina de Vega, an eye-witness, described the sight as both breathtaking and deeply spiritual.
Writer/Director Tim Chey discovered the story while in Singapore and felt compelled to create a film about the event. Despite widespread coverage in Asia, the story remains largely unknown in the U.S. Chey aims to change that with ‘The Firing Squad.’
The film stars James Barrington, Kevin Sorbo, Tupua Ainu'u, Eric Roberts, Madeline Anderson, and Cuba Gooding, Jr. During production, Cuba Gooding, Jr. recommitted to his faith, moved by the script. Significant advertising efforts have heightened expectations, with some predicting a top-three box office opening.
Epoch Studios, together with Atlas Distributors, is distributing the film globally. Early screenings have evoked strong emotional responses. The film may be one of the most evangelical Christian films ever made, according to a spokesperson for co-producer VGC Studios.
