The National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges Celebrates 25th Anniversary of the National Judicial Institute on Domestic Violence

RENO, NV / ACCESSWIRE / June 18, 2024 – The National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges (NCJFCJ) marks the 25th anniversary of the National Judicial Institute on Domestic Violence (NJIDV). This initiative, in partnership with Futures Without Violence and supported by the U.S. Department of Justice, aims to educate judges nationwide on handling cases of domestic violence, sexual assault, and related issues.

Since its inception in 1999, the NJIDV has conducted 120 in-person trainings, reaching over 10,250 judges across the U.S. The program covers the dynamics of domestic violence and provides practical advice from seasoned judges. A video campaign titled "This I believe" underscores the role of judges as community leaders in addressing domestic violence.

NJIDV workshops use interactive methods to address intimate partner violence, allowing judges of various jurisdictions to learn from one another. Upcoming workshops will be held in Louisville, Kentucky, and Santa Fe, New Mexico. The NJIDV also offers programs focused on continuing judicial skills and elder abuse cases.

Judge Marshall Murray (Ret.) highlighted the program's impact, stating that it equips judges to assist domestic violence victims and guide those using violence toward behavioral change, ensuring the best outcomes for children.
