The Swiss automobile market returns to its pre-pandemic level with a jump in February
In February 2024, the passenger car market in Switzerland and Liechtenstein recorded an increase of 7.7%, with 18,521 new registrations. This result marks a clear progression compared to the previous year, establishing the best figure for a month of February since 2020. Over the first two months of the year, the total of new cars registered stands at 33,757, indicating market stability (+0.4%).
The share of new cars with alternative propulsion continues to increase, with 31.2% of all registrations in February, highlighting a growing interest in less polluting technologies. Hybrid, electric and plug-in hybrid cars show significant increases compared to the previous year.
The current legislative context, with the debate on the CO2 law in Parliament, could influence the future development of the Swiss automobile market. Discussions focus on emissions reduction targets for the coming years, a crucial subject for the sector and consumers.
