TotalEnergies strengthens its position in maritime LNG
TotalEnergies has signed a charter agreement with Spanish shipowner Ibaizabal for a 18,600 m3 Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) bunker vessel. The vessel, which will be delivered in 2026, will expand TotalEnergies’ global presence in marine fuel supply hubs, with a possible extension to Oman. This is part of the Marsa LNG project, providing LNG for maritime transport.
LNG reduces greenhouse gas emissions from ships by around 20%. Nitrogen oxide and sulphur emissions are also reduced, which benefits port cities. TotalEnergies, the world's third largest LNG player, continues to increase its production and its involvement in the decarbonisation of the maritime sector. This initiative illustrates the role of LNG in the ecological transition of maritime transport.
