VERBUND AG Reports Lower Profits Due to Reduced Water Supply
VERBUND AG's financial results for the first three quarters of 2026 were adversely affected by historically low water supplies and decreased sales prices for hydropower. The company's EBITDA declined by 29% to €1,498.5m, while the Group result saw a 43.5% drop to €684.8m. Adjusted for non-recurring effects, the Group result decreased by 37.3%. Despite these challenges, growth in other segments slightly offset the impact.
The hydropower segment suffered from a 20.2% decrease in electricity generation, contributing significantly to the financial downturn. While wind and photovoltaic generation increased slightly, it was insufficient to counterbalance the overall decline. Hydropower's average sales price fell significantly by €33.8/MWh, further affecting results.
VERBUND has revised its 2026 forecast, anticipating an EBITDA of approximately €2,120m and a Group result around €1,010m. This adjustment considers the continued below-average water supply.
