VINCI, in a consortium with Dragados Offshore and Siemens Energy, has secured a contract from German transmission system operator 50Hertz. The contract involves designing, building, and installing two electrical conversion stations.

The project features an offshore converter platform for the LanWin 3 wind farm in the North Sea. This platform will convert alternate current to high-voltage direct current (HVDC) to minimize electrical losses during transmission to land, 120 km off the German coast.

An onshore platform in Schwerin, North-East Germany, will then convert the direct current back into alternating current for grid distribution to southern Germany. The offshore platform will be built in the Dragados Offshore yard in Andalusia, Spain.

This €2.9 billion contract highlights Cobra IS's expertise in offshore power conversion, adding to their delivery of DolWin 6 and nine power conversion platforms, totaling around 16 GW capacity.
