Waga Energy Expands to Brazil

Waga Energy is expanding its operations into South America with the establishment of a subsidiary in São Paulo, Brazil, as of February 4, 2025. This move aligns with their international expansion strategy to promote the use of renewable natural gas (RNG), derived from landfill biogas. Brazil offers significant potential with approximately 3,850 landfill sites, many equipped to collect biogas.
Recent Brazilian regulations incentivize methane emission reductions at these sites, aligning with the goals of the "Combustível do Futuro" law to decarbonize the transportation sector. By integrating RNG into the energy mix, Brazil aims to meet its Paris Agreement commitments, targeting a 43% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
Álvaro Ferreira has been appointed to lead Waga Energy Brasil Ltda, bringing 30 years of experience in developing gas markets. His expertise is expected to support Brazil's energy transition goals.
