Western Alaska Minerals announces promising initial resource estimate for Illinois Creek project
Western Alaska Minerals (WAM) has released a first mineral resource estimate for the Waterpump Creek (WPC) area, located on the Illinois Creek project in Alaska. This discovery reveals a high-grade distal zone of the Illinois Creek CRD system, extending over 7.5 km. The initial inferred resource includes 2.39 million tonnes at 977 g/t silver equivalent, totaling 75 million ounces of silver equivalent and 26.32% zinc equivalence.
The results highlight attractive mining thicknesses, ranging from 5 to 49 meters over a strike length of 495 meters, with an all-in discovery of 3198 ounces of silver equivalent per meter drilled. The resource shows robustness, remaining relatively insensitive up to a cut-off grade of 600 g/t silver equivalent. Zinc, a significant component of the resource, underlines the critical minerals potential of the project.
WAM CEO Kit Marrs expressed excitement about the results, foreseeing a future extension of mineralization to the southwest towards the Illinois Creek mine. This initial estimate of inferred resources is just the beginning, emphasizing the need to continue exploration to fully reveal the potential of the mineralized system.
The area is considered promising for further extension, particularly due to the results of a 3D IP geophysical survey from 2023 indicating significant exploration potential both immediately north of the WPC resource and to the south, along the 7.5 km LH trend. WAM officials remain committed to advancing exploration activities and contributing to the growth of the mining and exploration industry.
