Wienerberger Unveils Europe's Greenest Brick Plant
Wienerberger AG has launched a modernized brick plant in Uttendorf, Austria, featuring the world's largest electric industrial kiln. This initiative is part of the GreenBricks project, aimed at ecological, resource-saving construction. Using electricity from renewable sources, such as an in-house photovoltaic system, the plant reduces brick production emissions by approximately 90%. New clay mixtures, incorporating climate-friendly sawdust, further enhance sustainability.
The Uttendorf plant operates as a test site for Wienerberger's innovative solutions. As a result, it has become a benchmark for sustainable construction materials, with other company sites expected to adopt these practices. This effort aligns with Wienerberger's sustainability goals, including a 25% emission reduction by 2026 and a shift to 75% of sales from net-zero building products.
