XBM Develops Sustainable EV Battery Cathode Material
Xponential Battery Materials (XBM) has tackled the pressing issue of EV battery raw material shortages. The company has created a sustainable cathode material from industrial waste byproducts. These byproducts, typically seen as environmental hazards, are now repurposed as valuable resources.
The conventional Li-ion EV battery market predominantly depends on materials from China. The high cost and foreign dependency make cathode production a priority for US and EU economic security. XBM's innovation centers on CarbonX, a high-capacity, low-cost lithium-sulfur cathode material derived from petroleum and paper waste.
CarbonX offers double the capacity and a quarter of the cost of current materials, presenting exciting potential for eAviation and consumer electronics. XBM is pursuing production scale-up in the US and discussions with major airlines and electric aircraft developers are underway.
