Zide Door Psychedelic Church to Close San Francisco Location
Zide Door, a renowned psychedelic church in San Francisco, has announced its closure by the end of the year. Pastor Dave Hodges attributes this to increasing pressure from the city's Planning Department. Open since April 2023, Zide Door faced demands for structural upgrades that were not initially required. Members will continue to be served at the Church of Ambrosia's Oakland location.
The local political climate for psychedelics has shifted, particularly following setbacks in state legislation that would have supported psychedelic-assisted therapy. This change has also contributed to the church's difficulties. Hodges suggests the Planning Department's actions might amount to religious discrimination.
Despite challenges, the church has contributed positively to community safety, including aiding during overdose situations. Future reopening in San Francisco is uncertain, but remains a possibility if conditions improve.
