Innomotics supplies engineered power supply solution for green hydrogen research in the USA
  • National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) orders three Innomotics PR150 rectifiers and controls
  • Installation at one of the leading energy test facilities in the USA for hydrogen electrolyzers planned for 2026
  • Innomotics underscores its important role in supporting the growth field of green hydrogen production with this order
Nuremberg, January 16, 2025 – Innomotics, a global manufacturing leader for electric motors and large drive systems, has received a groundbreaking order from the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colorado, to provide the rectifier power supply system for their electrolyzer testing facility for green hydrogen electrolyzers. Hydrogen is considered a key technology driver for the future when it comes to reducing CO₂ emissions and transitioning to renewable energy. The demand for technologies like the Innomotics PR150 that help produce hydrogen safely, and cost effectively is therefore expected to increase. Innomotics’ hydrogen solutions contribute significantly to the development of a global hydrogen economy.

With a 60 year history of engineering, installing and supporting high power rectifierbased solutions for a wide range of industrial applications, such as electrowinning, Innomotics tailored the design of the PR150 specifically to green hydrogen production. With its high efficiency and scalability, the product is suitable for both low-voltage and medium-voltage applications and is specifically designed to power hydrogen electrolyzers with a power range of 5 to 16 MW.

As part of the order, three Innomotics PR150 units will be produced in Nuremberg and delivered to the U.S. for installation in a 40ft packaged control room together with the balance of the rectifier control and circuit protection equipment. The complete system will be installed at NREL’s Flatirons campus with a planned start up in Q2 2026. “This project presents a tremendous opportunity to collaborate with a marquee research and development entity engaged in working with industry to accelerate and scale aggressive decarbonization goals for various hard to abate market sectors. This groundbreaking order for the application of Innomotics high power rectifiers serving the green hydrogen sector and is an important step forward in the development of this critical market…” said Doug Keith, CEO & Head of Innomotics Americas.
