NFON recognised for innovation and AI transformation: NFON named one of Germany’s most innovative medium-sized companies
Munich, 29 June 2026 – NFON AG, a leading European provider of integrated business communications with a focus on AI-based applications, has been honoured with the TOP 100 Award 2026 as one of Germany’s most innovative medium-sized companies. The independent scientific assessment recognises the achievements of NFON AG in transforming business communications through artificial intelligence. It also confirms that NFON has established an innovation management system that sets international benchmarks.* Andreas Wesselmann, Chief Executive Officer of NFON AG and Jana Richter, Executive Vice President Engineering, AI & Innovation, accepted the award from former German President Christian Wulff at the German Mittelstand Summit in Heidelberg.
While business communications were once primarily centred on accessibility and voice transmission, artificial intelligence is fundamentally transforming the way organisations communicate, use knowledge and interact with their customers. They are evolving from a simple communication channel into an intelligent interface connecting people, information and business processes. This transformation is increasingly disrupting established market structures.
AI at the heart of the innovation strategy
With its NFON Next 2027 strategy, NFON has established a clear roadmap for setting priorities, focusing resources and translating innovation into scalable business models. Artificial intelligence forms the cornerstone of the company’s innovation and growth strategy and is consequently central to NFON’s ongoing strategic development. The objective is to establish NFON as Europe’s leading provider and trusted partner for AI-based business communications.
A decisive milestone on this journey was the acquisition of conversational AI specialist botario. This laid the foundations for building the company’s own AI capabilities and accelerated NFON’s transformation from a cloud telephony provider into a business that places artificial intelligence firmly at the centre of its product and technology development. Its early investment in AI technologies now enables NFON to bring innovations to market more rapidly and set new standards in intelligent business communications.
AI creates value for everyone
For NFON, artificial intelligence is not an end in itself. The aim is to help organisations make communications more productive, automate business processes more extensively and unlock new value creation potentials across the full spectrum of customer communications. The use of AI creates added value for customers while simultaneously strengthening the company’s own performance through higher productivity, greater scalability and additional growth opportunities.
The results of this development are now evident in NFON’s AI-based product portfolio. Built on a proprietary AI communications platform, proprietary AI speech-processing models and intelligent communication automation solutions, NFON has translated its AI strategy into practical products such as AI Essentials, Nia and Nia FrontDesk, integrating artificial intelligence directly into its customers’ communication and service processes. By combining cloud telephony, conversational AI and intelligent assistant capabilities, NFON enables organisations to make better use of information, improve process efficiency and enhance customer interactions throughout the entire customer journey. In doing so, NFON is among the innovation leaders redefining the boundaries of traditional business communications.
European values as a driver of innovation and competitive advantage
NFON is a European provider by conviction and by design. Its cloud infrastructure, commitment to data sovereignty and consistent focus on market requirements create trust and reliability in an environment where security, regulatory stability and digital sovereignty are becoming increasingly important. These factors strengthen NFON’s competitive position and provide the foundation for sustainable innovation. The company’s ambition is to identify technological developments at an early stage, translate them into market-relevant solutions and help shape the future of business communications as a European pioneer.
“Artificial intelligence is changing the rules of the game. The next generation of our market is emerging wherever communication, automation and artificial intelligence work seamlessly together. Innovation does not come from waiting, but from having the courage to explore new paths. For us, this transformation means setting new standards for intelligent and trustworthy business communications,” noted Andreas Wesselmann. “The TOP 100 Award confirms that we are on the right course and, above all, recognises the achievements of the people at NFON, whose enthusiasm for innovation, courage and creativity enable them to deliver measurable value for our customers every day.”
*The assessment confirms an exceptionally strong management commitment to innovation, supported by a clearly defined and consistently implemented innovation strategy in which digitalisation, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity are firmly embedded. Particularly noteworthy is the fact that NFON ranks among the top ten highest-rated companies in all four innovation management capability categories: innovation-oriented top management, innovation culture, innovative processes and organisation, and external orientation and open innovation.
The assessment also confirms that NFON has highly professional innovation processes, including systematic monitoring of technology, markets and competitors, clear decision-making structures, a high degree of organisational flexibility, strong cross-functional collaboration and extensive use of modern technologies, including artificial intelligence. The innovation management of NFON AG was awarded the highest possible rating of A+, placing it above the average of the companies recognised.
With the TOP 100 seal for 2026, NFON AG ranks among Germany’s most innovative medium-sized companies. The competition is led academically by
Professor Dr Nikolaus Franke of the Vienna University of Economics and Business.
