Recticel and Sika win Perifem Award for  energy-saving Light Roof system

Recticel and Sika have received a prestigious Perifem Award for their innovative Light Roof system. The award was presented last month at Perifem Day, the event for retailers in France. The Light Roof system, which won in the Energy Category, is the result of a partnership between Recticel Insulation and Sika, which specialises in membranes for flat roof construction.

The Light Roof system is an all-in-one solution consisting of Recticel's extremely lightweight Powerdeck+ insulation board and Sika’s Sarnafil TS77 solar reflective membrane. Introduced in France, the system improves the energy performance of commercial building roofs. It enables the renovation of steel deck flat roofs and the installation of photovoltaic panels without reinforcing the existing roof construction, while allowing operation of the building to continue during the works. In the case of new industrial, commercial and logistics buildings, the reduction in the size of steel structures makes it possible to reduce the building’s carbon footprint and realise financial savings on the cost of construction, compared to the traditional mineral wool solution.

Light Roof complies with regulatory requirements for commercial buildings in France to install photovoltaic panels on the roofs of existing buildings over 500 m²; as well as the obligation to reduce energy consumption for buildings in services sector with a floor area of 1,000 m² or more by at least 40% in 2030, 50% in 2040 and 60% by 2050.

Jan Vergote (CEO Recticel Group):  “Light Roof will play a key role in the renovation of the retail distribution and industrial building stock, where energy consumption reduction and  cost-efficient installation of solar panels are key requirements. Such smart innovations are vital for the achievement of our SBTi targets and they demonstrate our profound commitment to positive partnerships throughout the value chain.”
